Have your child complete an online grocery shop with you or write a shopping list. Talk to them about why you are buying the things in your basket/putting them on your list and whether they are things your family needs or wants. As an extension you may want to think about how someone else’s needs and wants could be different.

Needs and Wants Hot or Cold

Pick a need or want around the room and give a clue like, “I need this to read at night” or “I want to watch this”. Then guide them using hot or cold as they try to find the item around the room. If your child needs another clue to help them you can tell them the first letter of the object.

Draw a need or want and have your child guess what it is and say whether it is a need or want. Swap roles and play again. Example list to use:
